During the next couple of months, a large number of customers will be applying for deferment. We’ve pulled together a summary of some of the key points to remember when completing your application.

The deferment process
Although Erudio Student Loans customers can apply for deferment at any time during the year, April is the peak month for deferment because of when loans originally became due for repayment or their first deferment application (i.e. the April after students with loans completed or left their courses).

If you are already in deferment, you will automatically receive a new Deferment Application Form (DAF) pack eight weeks before your current deferment period ends. This pack includes a letter highlighting your upcoming deferment date, a new DAF and a new How to Guide to help you complete the DAF.

A similar process exists for shared borrowers (i.e. those with loans with more than one provider), but your deferment pack will come from the Student Loans Company (SLC).

Erudio customers not currently in deferment, but who wish to apply, can request an application pack at any time by emailing deferment@erudiostudentloans.co.uk or by calling 0333 003 7188.

If you are an Erudio customer and have at least one other mortgage-style student loan managed by another provider (e.g. Student Loans Company (SLC), Honours Student Loans or Thesis Servicing) and are currently in deferment, you will also receive an application form from SLC eight weeks before your current deferment period ends.

If you are a shared borrower not currently in deferment, you can also request an application pack by contacting one of your loan servicers. They will then notify SLC to issue you with an application form. Following receipt of a completed form, the SLC will then communicate the outcome of your deferment application to all of your loan servicers.

Leave plenty of time to return your form
We recommend that you return your DAF as soon as possible after receiving it. If your application is deemed to be incomplete, you may need to supply additional information to complete your application and this may cause a delay in reaching a final outcome for your application.

Ensure you include copies of relevant supporting evidence
It's important to include proof of your income or means of financial support with your DAF. Details of what proof is required is included within the How to Guide on pages 14 and 15.
Applications that don't include the required supporting evidence will be classed as incomplete and you will be contacted to request this evidence. This can cause a delay in processing your application.

Please ensure you send copies of all relevant supporting evidence and not originals, as the return of original documents cannot be guaranteed.

Further assistance
If you are unsure how to complete any particular section of the DAF, please refer to the How to Guide in the first instance. Otherwise, we recommend that you call us on 0333 003 7188 before you submit your application, to help reduce the chance of your application being considered as incomplete.
